2025 NATIONAL TAX DEBATE

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria presents the 2025 Edition of the National Tax Debate, of which, the grand finale is scheduled to hold in Abuja during the Annual Tax Conference in May 14, 2025.

Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the debate are as follows:

  • To stimulate the interest of Students in Taxation as a course of study
  • To provide a platform for intellectual interaction amongst students at the grassroots level.
  • To promote greater awareness of the relevance and importance of Taxation in meeting societal needs and reducing social inequalities.
  • To emphasize the need to change our dependency from natural resources to revenue generation from taxation
  • To provide a platform for intellectual interaction among students, tax practitioners and policy makers

Eligibility:

Entry is applicable to ONLY undergraduates of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

Mode of Operation

The tax debate is an annual event which is structured for only undergraduate students of both private and public Tertiary Institutions.

To be conducted at National level

The number of contestants from each Institution should not be more than 3 (three).

The competition is in three stages, namely:

(i)        Stage one`: Shortlisted candidates will participate in the first phase of the competition which is a computer-based test (CBT) slated for Wednesday, April 23, 2025

(ii)        Stage two: Best 50 participants from the 1st round will qualify for the 2nd test slated for Monday, May 01, 2025 also a computer –based test (CBT)

(iii)       Stage three: Best 6 Participants from the 2nd round with the highest marks would be invited physically for the final Tax Debate slated for Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the venue of year 2025 Annual Tax Conference in Abuja. The winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up will emerge on that same day.

Consolation Prizes would be given to the remaining 3 Contestants.

Winner                   –      300,000:00

1st Runner up       –      200,00:00  

2nd Runner up     –       100,000:00

Consolatory Prizes for other final contestants:

4th, 5th and 6th      -N50,000:00 each

The programme will be given adequate media coverage (both local and national media). The participating schools will be expected to inaugurate tax clubs in their various schools.
